Consider the graph below: What is the equation of the line in slope-intercept form?

Answer:

y=\frac{-5}{4}x+5

Step-by-step explanation:

Slope intercept form: y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept (the value of y when the line crosses the y-axis)

<u>1) Find the slope of the line (</u>m<u>)</u>

To do this, we can plug the two given points (0,5) and (4,0) into the slope equation:

\frac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1} \\= \frac{0-5}{4-0}\\= \frac{-5}{4}

Therefore, the slope of the line is \frac{-5}{4}.

<u>2) Find the y-intercept of the line (</u>b<u>)</u>

Recall that the y-intercept is the value of y when the line crosses the y-axis. We don't actually need to perform any calculations because on the graph, we can see that the line crosses the y-axis when y=5.

Therefore, the y-intercept of the line is 5.

Plugging both m and b into y=mx+b, we have a final equation of:

y=\frac{-5}{4}x+5

I hope this helps!

Angie wants to hang a family portrait in her living room. The portrait is 8 inches ×10 inches. Angie puts the picture in a frame
kipiarov [429]
I think it would be 10x12. Because ur basically adding 2 inches to the width. And two inches to the length cuz of the 4 sides of the frame. So in the end the area would be 120 inches squared

Keelah clothing store buys coats for $50 and then sells them for $80. What is the percent of markup on the price of the coat?
REY [17]

50*x=80 (x=percent in decimal form)

x=1.6 (divide both sides by 50)

Doubke check:

50*1.6=80

80=80

Convert 1.6 into a percent:

1.6 -> 160%

I got this far in my working out and am already stuck. have i gone wrong?
Kipish [7]

Yes, you made an algebraic error. By multiplying 18 x 4, you messed up on order of operations.

(x+9)(x+2)*4

becomes:

(x^2+11x+18)*4

= 4x^2 + 44x + 72

anyway, this is how I would do this problem:

(x+9)(x+2)(4) = 912

(x+9)(x+2) = 228

x^2 + 11x + 18 = 228

x^2 + 11x - 220 = 0

(x+21)(x-10) = 0

x = -21 or 10

The dimensions can't be negative, so we only use x = 10

The dimensions are then 10+9, 10+2, 4

or 19, 12, 4
