Cork cambium is an unspecialized tissue found in the outermost plant layers. These act as meristematic regions; here, new tissues arise, growing outwards- these include:

  • phelloderm- they mature into inner secondary cortex
  • cork- dead air-filled cells called cork that form a strong protective layer on the stems of woody vascular plants.
