When an electron temporarily occupies an energy state greater than its ground state, it is in an excited state. An electron can become excited if it is given extra energy, such as if it absorbs a photon, or packet of light, or collides with a nearby atom or particle.

5. What is the mole fraction of NaOH in an aqueous
solution that contains 31.0 % NaOH by mass?
Liono4ka [1.6K]

Answer:

16.8%

Explanation:

31% NaOH molar mass 40 gm

69% H2O molar mass 18 gm

1000 gm would be

310 gm NaOH or 310/40 = 7.75 moles

690 gm of H2O or 690/18 = 38.333 moles

7.75 / (7.75 + 38.333) = .168 mole fraction

Is the reaction between methane and oxygen endothermic or exothermic? Explain why we burn fossil fuels, such as natural gas.
vladimir1956 [14]
The thing that governs whether a reaction is exothermic is the energy given out / used up to break / form the bonds in the reaction.

When two substances react, the bonds in those substances first break up, releasing energy, before re-forming in a different way, taking in energy. The nature of the bonds that are broken up and reformed determines whether more energy is given out (exothermic) or taken in (endothermic)
