This act was replaced by the<em> "Non-Intercourse Act"</em> on the last days of President Jefferson. Just like the Embargo Act, it was meant to hurt the economies of Britain and France. In the end, <u><em>both Acts proved to be ineffective.</em></u> They damaged the economy of America and contributed to the "War of 1812."
