Complete question is;

A safety light is designed so that the times between flashes are normally distributed with a mean of 2.50s and a standard deviation of 0.50s.

A. Find the probability that an individual time is greater than 3.00 s.

B. Find the probability that the mean for 70 randomly selected times is greater than 3.00 s.

C. Given that the light is intended to help people see an obstruction, which result is more relevant for assessing the safety of the light?

Answer:

A) 0.15866

B) 0.00000001

C) Result in part B is more important

Step-by-step explanation:

A) We are given;

Mean; μ = 2.5

Standard deviation; σ = 0.5

To find the probability that an individual time is greater than 3 seconds, we will find the z-score and then find the p-value.

z = (x¯ - μ)/σ

z = (3 - 2.5)/0.5

z = 1

From z-distribution table attached, at z = 1, p(z < 1) = 0.84134

But we are looking for P(z > 1), thus;

P(z > 1) = 1 - 0.84134

P(z > 1) = 0.15866

B) now 70 are randomly selected. Thus, the z-score will be gotten from;

z = (x¯ - μ)/(σ/√n)

z = (3 - 2.5)/(0.5/√70)

z ≈ 8.37

From online calculations, we have;

P(z < 8.37) = 0.99999999

But we need P(z > 8.37).

This is:

P(z > 8.37) = 1 - P(z < 8.37)

P(z > 8.37) = 1 - 0.99999999

P(z > 8.37) = 0.00000001

C) The result in part B is more relevant because it is dealing with a sample size of 70 as against individual one in result A.

Georgia [21]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  • Washington had 196 hits
  • Sanchez had 194 hits

Step-by-step explanation:

Let s represent the number of hits Sanchez had. Then Washington had (s+2) hits, and their hit total was ...

  s +(s+2) = 390

  2s = 388 . . . . . . subtract 2

  s = 194 . . . . . . . . divide by 2

Sanchez had 194 hits; Washington had 196.

A real estate developer is considering investing in a shopping mall on the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia. Three parcels of land
Arada [10]

Answer:

Step 1: The null and alternative hypothesis for the one way analysis of variance is,

H₀ : There is no difference in the means of each area.

H₁ : At least one mean is different.

The objective of this question is to test whether the income of the three areas are significantly different.

Step 2: The problem states to use 0.05 significance level.

Step 3: The test statistic follows the F-distribution.

Step 4: Decision rule is based on the critical value.

Numerator degrees of freedom is,

K - 1 = 3 - 1

= 2

Denominator degrees of freedom is 2.

n - k = 12 - 3

= 9

Using the F-distribution table for ∝=0.05 with numerator and denominator degrees freedom, the critical value is 4.26. The decision rule is to reject H₀ if the computed value of F exceeds 4.26.

Step 5: Calculations.

Using Excel follow the steps mentioned below.

1. Import or type the data into spreadsheet.

2. Data--------> Data Analysis----------> Anova: Single Factor, click OK.

3. Select Input Range, make a tick mark on Labels in the first row, enter 0.05 for alfa.

4. Click OK.

The obtained output for the one-way ANOVA is,

[ find the figure in attachment]

From the obtained output, the computed test statistic value, F = 14.18 , which is greater than the critical value of 4.26. So, reject H₀

Step 6: Interpretation. The average income of each area is different. It can be concluded that the average income is significantly different .

The probability that the major of one student that is selected at random is engineering can be calculated by the total number of engineering major divided by the total number of students

p = engineering / total students
p = 300 / ( 300 + 700 + 500)
p = 0.2 is the probability of the major of one student is engineering
