Feudal Japan was isolated from the rest of the world, in contrast with
feudal Europe, for whom trade and cooperation with other continents was
still necessary in order to survive. There were other subtler
differences too, however, for example Knights in Europe were rewarded
for service with land and by gaining control over the peasants in an
area. The Japanese equivalent, Samurai, were paid a salary and not
rewarded with land. <span />
Congress claimed the following powers: to make war and peace; conduct foreign affairs; request men and money from the states; coin and borrow money; regulate Indian affairs; and settle disputes among the states.
