What advantage did the Confederate army have over the Union army?

History
1 answer:
Nadusha1986 [10]3 years ago

At the onset on the war, in 1861 and 1862, they stood as relatively equal combatants. The Confederates had the advantage of being able to wage a defensive war, rather than an offensive one. They had to protect and preserve their new boundaries, but they did not have to be the aggressors against the Union :)

According to Paine, what problems did the Patriots face?
bogdanovich [222]
Some of the problems that the Patriots faced were harsh conditions and fierce weather. The harsh conditions were a big toll on the Patriots because then the soldiers had to waste energy that they would normally need for fighting in the war. The harsh weather made the land very hard to navigate. The weather could also mess up the Patriots equipment. If water got in the rifle that they were holding, that gun would become obsolete. The water would prevent the gun from firing if the water would lodge itseld in a certain spot.

Cornwallis was defeated at Yorktown because...?
Readme [11.4K]

Because he did not have enough provisions to stand the siege.

Explanation:

  • The battle was a classic siege, in which day by day the hoops around Cornwallis were tightening.
  • After an initial trench in which Americans and French were stationed, a multi-day cannon exchange of fire favored the French, who had stronger and better cannons than the British.
  • On October 11, the Americans set out to make a second trench, which is now much closer to the very fortification of the British, while on October 12, Cornwallis sends a dispatch that he cannot stand the siege for long.
  • On October 14, a new trench was located 140 meters from the British army stationed in front, there was no moonlight that night, and again a small British-German army was attacked in front of the Washington-led army.
