RUDIKE [14]2 years ago

Answer:

A ghostly image in the curves of the knocker gives the old man a momentary shock: It is the peering face of Jacob Marley. When Scrooge takes a second re-focused look, he sees nothing but a doorknocker. With a disgusted "Pooh-pooh," Scrooge opens the door and trudges into his bleak quarters.

What does the analogy "between women being citizens without the right to vote and sitting in a row boat without any oars mean?
Llana [10]
What it is saying is it is like having a peanut butter jelly sandwich without the bread. It is ridiculous and something that is needed to make a whole of something. So like per say, you have a teddy bear but you buy that teddy bear but it has no filling in it. So it's like claiming to be a car salesman, without the cars. I hope this helps, sorry if it doesn't make sense.

Fittoniya [83]

Answer:

The setting that is used in this excerpt exemplifies the gothic style because the passage has a clear medieval tone used that can be understood by the reader to portray gothic values and morals. Upon further exploration of the text, it can be understood that the speaker or author meant for this passage to be seen in a darker light than most literature was portrayed during that time period.
