Jonah tells his friend Derek that he would like to go parasailing. Derek is very enthusiastic and suggests that they try an outf

it called Wind Beneath My Wings because he has heard good things about it. Derek offers to arrange everything. He makes a reservation, puts the $600 fee on his credit card, and picks Jonah up to drive him to the Wings location. What a friend! But the day does not turn out as Jonah had hoped. While he is soaring up in the air over the Pacific Ocean, his sail springs a leak, he goes plummeting into the sea and breaks both legs. During his recuperation in the hospital, he learns that Wings is unlicensed. He also sees an ad for Wings offering parasailing for only $350. Derek is listed in the ad as one of the company's owners.
Required:
a. Does an agency relationship exist between Derek and Jonah?
b. Discuss what duties the agent had to the principal in the above example. Did the agent fulfill his duties? Why or Why not?

Answer:

- Derek is an agent of Jonah

- Derek failed in his fiduciary duties to his principal

Explanation:

An a agent is someone that is appointed by a principal to take care of their interests. The agent's loyalty is to only his principal and he should not manipulate the relationship for personal gain.

In the given scenario Jonah appointed Derek to arrange for parasailing activity. So he is an agent to Jonah in this respect.

However Derek chooses an outfit called Wind Beneath My Wings where he is an owner, he put aside $600 instead of $350 for the reservation, and the company is unlicensed.

All these are violations of Derek's fiduciary duty. He put Jonah at risk for his own personal gain.

On June 30, Collins Management Company purchased land for $460,000 and a building for $520,000, paying $360,000 cash and issuing
sammy [17]

Answer:

See Explanation

Explanation:

(a)

Journal entry to record the transaction is,

Particulars Debit Credit

Land and Building (460000 + 520000) $980,000

Cash Paid $360,000

Mortgage Payable (980,000 - 360,000) $620,000

We assume that 4% interest is chargeable each semiannual payment and that each subsequent payment is charged 4% on the remaining amount of principal minus any preceding principal payments.

(b)

First installment = Principal + Interest payable

= 31,000 + (620,000 * 0.04) = $55,800

(c)

Second payment = 31,000 + [(620,000 - 31000) * 0.04] = $54,560

Since the chart of accounts is not provided you can confirm the the account headings.

Hope that helps.

Charter Corporation, which began business in 2013, appropriately uses the installment sales method of accounting for its install
Doss [256]

Answer:

a. Charter should recognize $80,000 as gross profit in 2013; and Charter should recognize $92,500 as gross profit in 2014.

b. The balance in the deferred gross profit account at the end of 2013 should be $105,000; and the balance in the deferred gross profit account at the end of 2014 should be $120,500.

Explanation:

Note: The data in this question are merged together. They are therefore sorted before answering the question. Kindly see the attached pdf file for the represented complete question with the sorted data.

The explanation to the answers is now given as follows:

Installment sales method can be described as a revenue recognition technique where a business postpone profit on a sale until when the cash is received from the buyer. A proportion of the profit based on gross profit percentage is then recorded as a profit for the period when the cash is received from the buyer.

This method can be applied to this question as follows:

Gross profit in 2013 = Installment sales in 2013 - Cost of installment sales in 2013 = $370,000 - $185,000 = $185,000

Gross profit percentage in 2013 = (Gross profit in 2013 / Installment sales in 2013) * 100 = ($185,000 / $370,000) * 100 = 0.50 * 100 = 50%

Gross profit in 2014 = Installment sales in 2014 - Cost of installment sales in 2014 = $360,000 - $252,000 = $108,000

Gross profit percentage in 2014 = (Gross profit in 2014 / Installment sales in 2014) * 100 = ($108,000 / $360,000) * 100 = 0.30 * 100 = 30%

a. How much gross profit should Charter recognize in 2013 and 2014 from installment sales?

Gross to recognize in 2013:

Gross recognized in 2013 in respect of 2013 instalment sales = Cash collections in 2013 on installment sales during 2013 * Gross profit percentage in 2013 = $160,000 * 50% = $80,000

Therefore, Charter should recognize $80,000 as gross profit in 2013.

Gross to recognize in 2014:

Gross recognized in 2014 in respect of 2013 instalment sales = Cash collections in 2014 on installment sales during 2013 * Gross profit percentage in 2013 = $110,000 * 50% = $55,000

Gross recognized in 2014 in respect of 2014 instalment sales = Cash collections in 2014 on installment sales during 2014 * Gross profit percentage in 2014 = $125,000 * 30% = $37,500

Total gross profit to recognize in 2014 = Gross recognized in 2014 in respect of 2013 instalment sales + Gross recognized in 2014 in respect of 2014 instalment sales = $55,000 + $37,500 = $92,500

Therefore, Charter should recognize $92,500 as gross profit in 2015.

b. What should be the balance in the deferred gross profit account at the end of 2013 and 2014?

For 2013:

Balance in the deferred gross profit in respect of 2013 account at the end of 2013 = Gross profit in 2013 - Gross recognized in 2013 in respect of 2013 installment sales = $185,000 - $80,000 = $105,000

Therefore, the balance in the deferred gross profit account at the end of 2013 should be $105,000.

For 2014:

Balance in the deferred gross profit account in respect of 2013 at the end of 2014 = Balance in the deferred gross profit in respect of 2013 account at the end of 2013 - Gross recognized in 2014 in respect of 2013 installment sales = $105,000 - $55,000 = $50,000

Balance in the deferred gross profit in respect of 2014 account at the end of 2014 = Gross profit in 2014 - Gross recognised in 2014 in respect of 2014 installment sales = $108,000 - $37,500 = $70,500

Total balance in the deferred gross profit account at the end of 2013 = Balance in the deferred gross profit account in respect of 2013 at the end of 2014 + Balance in the deferred gross profit in respect of 2014 account at the end of 2014 = $50,000 + $70,500 = $120,500

Therefore, the balance in the deferred gross profit account at the end of 2014 should be $120,500.

A certain project has three activities on its critical path. Activity A’s normal completion time is five days. It can be crashed
Snowcat [4.5K]

Answer:

Acitivy B should be crashed first by 2 days and Activity B has a crash cost per days of $25, it will be crashed for a total of $50.

Explanation:

activity A =

normal time (NT) = 5 days

Normal cost (NC) = $0

crash time (CT) = 3 days

Crash cost (CC) = $500

crash cost per day = [CC - NC]/[CT - NT] = $250/day

activity B:

normal time (NT) = 6 days

Normal cost (NC) = $0

crash time (CT) = 4 days

Crash cost (CC) = $50

crash cost per day = [CC - NC]/[CT - NT] = $25/day

activity C:

normal time (NT) = 8 days

Normal cost (NC) = $0

crash time (CT) = 3 days

Crash cost (CC) = $1000

crash cost per day = [CC - NC]/[ CT- NT] = $200/day

The activity that takes the least cost to speed up is the first one to be crashed. from the computations, activity B takes the least cost to speed up, so the project manager should crash activity B first by 2 days.

Therefore, Acitivy B should be crashed first by 2 days and Activity B has a crash cost per days of $25, it will be crashed for a total of $50.

(Yield to maturity) The market price is $725 for a 16-year bond ($1 comma 000 par value) that pays 9 percent annual inter
wlad13 [49]

Answer:

13.16%

Explanation:

In this question we use the RATE formula i.e shown in the attached spreadsheet

Given that,

Present value = $725

Assuming figure - Future value or Face value = $1,000

PMT = 1,000 × 9% ÷ 2 = $45

NPER = 16 years × 2 = 32 years

The formula is shown below:

= Rate(NPER;PMT;-PV;FV;type)

The present value come in negative

So, after solving this, the yield to maturity is 6.58% × 2 = 13.16%
