“2x + 1 = 23”

SUBTRACT by 1 to BOTH SIDES

2x + 1 – 1 = 23 – 1

CANCEL out: 1 – 1 because it gives you the value of 0

KEEP: 23 – 2 because it helps us solve for x

“23 – 1 = 22”

NEW EQUATION: 2x = 22

DIVIDE by 2 to BOTH SIDES

2x/2 = 22/2

CANCEL out: 2/2 because that gives you 1

KEEP: 22/2 because it helps us solve for x

Answer: x = 11 ☑️

To obtain the total of ways in which he can arrange homes on these lots, you use the permutation. This is, 12 elements o models can be arranged occupying only the 5 positions:

Solving:

12P5=\frac{12!}{7!}

12P5= 479,001,600 ÷ 5,040

Finally, in 95,040 different ways he can arrange homes on the lots.

To compare fractions , you need to have same denominator.

Just multiply the Numerator and denominator of the fraction by  required number so as to get the common denominator.

for example, In this case , the common denominator is 12.
the first fraction is converted as shown, 5/3=5*4/3*4=20/12
similarly, you can convert others.
Once you have common denominator, just compare numerators.
