Maslowich

Answer:

A.Yes, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a UN member state.

B. It joined the UN  on 20th September 1960.

C. It was amidst nationwide post independence violence.

The Democratic of Congo became independent on 30th June 1960 from Belgium amidst  nationwide violent political crisis between secession groups and the new government . The UN was invited by the then President Kasavubu and Prime Minister and Patrice Lumumba respectively on the 12th of July of the same year, against the secession group backed by the Belgian government. It was in this atmosphere that the first UN peace keeping mission (ONUC) was established and lasted until 1964. However this was did not involve the control of insurrection groups which finally led to Lumumba seeking military aid from the Soviet Union.

Radda [10]
