One third of a number = x =

Six more than one third of a number = + 6

Their sum = 3

Accoeding to the question,

+ 6 = 3

Multiplying both sides by 3 we get,

x + 18 = 9

Moving constant to the right, we get,

x = 9 - 18

By calculation, we get,

x = -9

∴ The number is -9
