It is often interpreted that indeed the paintings are meant to inspire success of the hunters. The cave paintings are an attempt of the early man to somehow gain control of the nature and the dangerous beasts that plagued them. The cave paintings in which show animals pierced and attacked support this thesis. Also it is believed that this was also done to increase the fertility of certain species in the wild like horses which the painting of a pregnant horse in the Lascaux cave seems to support.
