President Theodore Roosevelt before the days that he is still a Vice President, he is very fond on a West African Proverb: "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far", this statement always came out in his mouth and late after President William McKinley was shot by an assassin, Roosevelt replace the throne. I think the main reason that he President Roosevelt use the Big Stick Policy is to negotiate peacefully with other countries as well as threatening them with their military might.
