During the 1840's many came to California in search of gold. They began to come by wagon, horses, and foot. They came in large families and sometimes only friends.
These and other Hindu literature classified the society in principle into four varnas:
Brahmins: priests, scholars and teachers.
Kshatriyas: rulers, warriors and administrators.
Vaishyas: agriculturalists and merchants.
Shudras: laborers and service providers.
