Change in brain size is very important for the evolution of hominids as opposed to other species because bigger brain helped our ancestor survives when the environmental conditions changed with the passage of time. They use their brain to avoid negative effects of environment change.  I do a lot of things with my brain that other organisms may not be able to do that such as inventions of new technologies.
