Of course. Pollutant in the air that result from combustion of fuels or as byproducts of reactions include such common things as Ozone, Particulate Matter, Nitrogen and Sulfur Dioxide, Lead, and Carbon Monoxide. These pollutants can literally choke up the air in some area, and cause extreme exacerbation of Chronic Intermittent Bronchospasms (Asthma) and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases), which effect quality of breathing, sometimes to the point of a potentially lethal flare up.

Additionally a predisposition toward disease and chemical reactions to the body can lead to Pneumonia in both an infectious and chemical capacity, Lastly particulate matter especially can flare up Allergies.
