Question 1)

Given the points

  • (3, 5)
  • (3, -6)

Finding the slope between (3, 5) and (3, -6)

  • (x₁, y₁) = (3, 5)
  • (x₂, y₂) = (3, -6)

Using the formula

Slope = m =  [y₂ - y₁] /  [x₂ - x₁]

               =  [-6 - 5] / [3 - 3]

               = -11 / 0

               = undefined or ∞

Thus, the slope of the line = m = undefined.

Note: The undefined slope means the line is vertical.

                                            Question 2)

Given the points

  • (-6, 2)
  • (8, 2)

Finding the slope between (-6, 2) and (8, 2)

  • (x₁, y₁) = (-6, 2)
  • (x₂, y₂) = (8, 2)

Using the formula

Slope = m =  [y₂ - y₁] /  [x₂ - x₁]

               =  [2 - 2] / [8 - (-6)]

               = 0 / 14

               = 0

Thus, the slope of the line = m = 0.

Note: The zero slope means the line is horizontal.

At the bank, Derek made 7 withdrawals, each in the same amount. His brother, John, made 5 withdrawls, each in the same amount.

Let x be the amount of one of Derek's withdrawals

Each of John's withdrawals was $5 more than each withdrawal that Derek made.

x + 5 is t the amount of one of John's withdrawals

Derek made 7 withdrawals

So amount withdraw 7 times = 7x

John made 5 withdrawals

So amount withdraw 5 times = 5(x+5)

Both Derek and John withdrew the same amount of money in the end

(A) 7x = 5(x+5)

(B) Solve for x

7x = 5x + 25

Subtract 5x from both sides

2x = 25

Divide by 2

x = 12.5

(C) check your solution

we plug in 12.5 for x in 7x= 5x + 25

7(12.5) = 5(12.5) + 25

87.5 = 62.5+ 25

87.5 = 87.5

(D) Each brother withdrawal 87.5 dollars

Pls work out and give detail. Use the slope formula to determine the slope of each line.
kolbaska11 [484]

Answer:

m=0

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

See attachment

Required

Determine the slope of the line

From the attachment, we have the following points

(x_1,y_1) = (-4,1)

and

(x_2,y_2) = (3,1)

The slope m is then calculated using:

m = \frac{y_2- y_1}{x_2 - x_1}

Substitute values for the x's and y's

m = \frac{1-1}{3 - (-4)}

m = \frac{1-1}{3 +4}

m = \frac{0}{7}

m=0

Hence, the slope is 0
