What you do is stack the fractions and subtract 9-3 and you get 6 and bring down the 8 and subtract 5-3 and you get 6 6/8
I think you guys are using a^2 + b^2 = c^2
the equation would be
x^2 + 2x^2 = 6^2
3/2 / 1/4 = 3/2 * 4/1
3*4= 12
2*1= 1
n= 12/1 or 12
