Answer:

Matilda sorted 350 letters and Lorraine sorted 320 letters in 6 hours.

Step-by-step explanation:

Matilda and Lorraine work in the mail room of a large company sorting letters.

Matilda has already sorted 50 letters and continues sorting at a rate of 50 letters per hour.

Function representing this process will be f(x) = 50x + 50

where x is the time for sorting the letters.

Similarly, Lorraine has already sorted 80 letters and continues sorting 40 letters per hour.

Function representing this process will be g(x) = 40x + 80

Now we have to calculate the number of letters sorted after 6 hours by both of them.

We plug in the value of x = 6 in f(x) and g(x) to find the number of letters sorted.

f(6) = 50×6 + 50 = 350

g(6) = 40×6 + 80 = 320

Therefore, answer will be - Matilda sorted 350 letters and Lorraine sorted 320 letters in 6 hours.

For the second question the answer should be 50×6=300+50=350 letters for Matilda. And for Lorraine It would be 40×6=240+80=320

The point A(-2, 3) is translated using T: (x,y) → (x + 4, y + 2). What is the distance from A to A'? 2 5 2
stepan [7]

For this case, we have that by definition, the distance between two points is given by:

d = \sqrt {(x_ {2} -x_ {1}) ^ 2+ (y_ {2} -y_ {1}) ^ 2}

We have to:

A: (x_ {1}, y_ {1}) = (- 2,3)\\A ':( x_ {2}, y_ {2}) = (x + 4, y + 2) = (- 2 + 4, 3 + 2) = (2,5)

Substituting:

d = \sqrt {(2 - (- 2)) ^ 2+ (5-3) ^ 2}\\d = \sqrt {(4) ^ 2 + (2) ^ 2}\\d = \sqrt {16 + 4}\\d = \sqrt {20}

Answer:

d = \sqrt {20}

I need help on #3 #5 and #6
oksano4ka [1.4K]
3. First start by making the mixed number into an improper fraction

15/5 butter for 1 batch; 15/4 batches

then simply multiply

11 and 1/4 cups of butter are needed to make 3 and 3/4 batches.

5. (I might not have gotten this one right btw) First you need to figure out how many books she read in one day.

6/5 = 1.2
Then multiply this number by 10

1.2 * 10 = 12
then multiply 1.2 * 20

1.2 * 20 =24

So Mr Barker can read 12 books in 10 days, and 24 books in 20 days.

6. change the mixed numbers to improper fractions

7/4 cups of cereal and 9/2 bowls of cereal

multiply the fractions together

7/4 * 9/2 = 63/8

change back to a mixed number

7 and 7/8

So Mr. N eats 7 and 7/8 cups of cereal every week (who measures out their cereal each morning anyway :), hope this helps!)

Why is C the answer for this question?
Grace [21]

Step-by-step explanation:

A left Riemann sum approximates a definite integral as:

\int\limits^b_a {f(x)} \, dx \approx \sum\limits_{k=1}^{n}f(x_{k}) \Delta x \\where\ \Delta x = \frac{b-a}{n} \ and\ x_{k}=a+\Delta x \times (k-1)

Given ∫₂⁸ cos(x²) dx:

a = 2, b = 8, and f(x) = cos(x²)

Therefore, Δx = 6/n and x = 2 + (6/n) (k − 1).

Plugging into the sum:

∑₁ⁿ cos((2 + (6/n) (k − 1))²) (6/n)

Therefore, the answer is C.  Notice that answer D would be a right Riemann sum rather than a left (uses k instead of k−1).
