I'd say they probably just bruised it or pulled it when moving. This could also be from period cramps but its unlikely to just hurt in the hips, usually you have cramps in the abdomen area but people are different.

Because if you do a good amount of stretching per day, while gradually increasing the time spent stretching, then you are bound to become more flexible around the hips :)
