Do you agree with the points given by Larry Smith? Give at least two (2) statements you support and another two (2) that you dis
Veseljchak [2.6K]

Answer:

Yes, I agree with Larry Smith. Here are some of the statements that resonate well with me:

Smith explains that it is important for one to love the job they are doing. This is corroborated by John Ruskin who said: "<em>when love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.</em>"

Smith also makes another point to say that it is incorrect for one to be happy for only 28% of their career. That is 2 out of 7 days. He makes the illustration that 5 days a week, one must go to work. If one does not like that job, they'd always look forward to the weekend. I am an advocate for happing a happy life. If one is only happy for 2 out of 7 days a week, then they are not really happy. It's a sad way to live one's life; just to pay bills.

On the other hand,

There are many people who have tasted poverty. Who know the unhappiness that not having enough brings. There are people never dreamt they'd become anything in life until they found the jobs they now have. For that category of people, their passion is being able to meet their need and live a life void of lack and poverty. So to ask someone in that category to go look for their passion may be anti-productive.

I'll also make reference to his last statement about luck. Smith says he doesn't wish people luck. I don't agree that life is completely without positive co-incidence. Not that it is wise to depend entirely on it.

As the saying goes "Luck favours the prepared."

If one works hard enough, the chances tend to tilt in their favour.

Cheers

It is important that with darkfield microscopy, the light that illuminates the specimen is a hollow cone of oblique light rather
Alex73 [517]

Answer:

The oblique illumination is

used by the microscopists to resolve N. Spencrii in the Dark Field Condensers.

Explanation:

It was found that the use of oblique light was required to resolve the striae. Oblique illumination was the first step toward dark field microscopy. In dark field, light

seems to radiate from the specimen while all the rest of the field is black. Resolution is as good as that in bright field while contrast is enhanced.

In dark field microscopy, no

direct light from the condenser enters the objective lens. Only light

that is reflected, refracted or diffracted by the specimen enters the objective. The dark field condenser produces a circle of light. The

light is at an extremely oblique angle to the surface of the slide. This

oblique light comes to a focus on the specimen. It then diverges so

strongly that no direct light enters the objective. This type

of illumination is a hollow cone of light.

Famed for his masterful use of irony, many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories have become classics due to the author slowly re
Dahasolnce [82]

Answer:

D- Many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories have become classics because of the author's famed and masterful use of irony, evidenced in the slow revelation of a tragic twist of fate at the end of each piece.

Explanation:

The original sentence begins with the modifier "Famed for his masterful use of irony,"  which requires a person as its subject. However, in the original sentence, "many of  Guy de Maupassant's short stories" is the subject. Moreover, the phrase "due to the  author slowly revealing" is awkward.

A. The opening verb-ed modifier “Famed for his…” is incorrectly modifying the subject of the preceding clause “many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories”.  Usage of “due to” is not correct here.

B. Many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories have become classics because of how he famously and masterfully uses irony, evident in the slow revelation of a tragic twist of fate at the end of each piece. Incorrect:

i. “because of” should be followed by a noun or clause beginning with noun.

C. Famed for using irony in a masterful way, many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories have become classics because of the author slowly revealing a tragic twist of fate at the end of each piece.: Incorrect. This choice repeats the modifier error of choice A.

D. Many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories have become classics because of the author's famed and masterful use of irony, evidenced in the slow revelation of a tragic twist of fate at the end of each piece. Correct.

E. Many of Guy de Maupassant's short stories have become classics because he slowly revealed a tragic twist of fate at the end of each piece, demonstrating his famed and masterful use of irony. Incorrect. . This choice repeats the same pronoun error of Choice B.
