Which number is a solution of the inequality? x(7 – x) > 8

Mathematics

m_a_m_a [10]3 years ago
7 0
X(7-x)>8  perform indicated multiplication on left side

7x-x^2>8  divide both sides by -1

x^2-7x<-8  halve the linear coefficient, square it, and add it to both side ie (-7/2)^2=12.25

x^2-7x+12.25<4.25 now the left side is a perfect square

(x-3.5)^2<4.25  take the square root of both sides

x-3.5<±√4.25  add 3.5 to both sides

x<3.5±√4.25

So x>3.5-√4.25 and x<3.5+√4.25  or if you want approximations

x>1.44 and x<5.56 or in interval notation:

x=(1.44, 5.56)  (to nearest hundredths)

Expand
7x-x²>8
times -1 both sides and flip sign
x²-7x<-8
addd 8 to both sides
x²-7x+8<0
if we solve assuming x=0 to find where it is equal to 0 we get
x=(7-√17)/2 and x=(7+√17)/2
we want less than 0
test a point betwen them
for x=3, we get
-4<0
true
so we want the numbers between x=(7-√17)/2 and x=(7+√17)/2

the number(s) we want is(are) between (7-√17)/2 and (7+√17)/2

Choose the equation of a circle with radius 6 and center (2, -3).
Rufina [12.5K]

Answer:  (x-2)^2 + (y+3)^2 = 36\\\\

Work Shown:

(x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2\\\\(x-2)^2 + (y-(-3))^2 = 6^2\\\\(x-2)^2 + (y+3)^2 = 36\\\\

Note that (h,k) = (2,-3) is the center and r = 6 is the radius. The last line is not expanded out using the FOIL rule because its common practice to leave it in (x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2\\\\ form. This form allows the reader to quickly determine the center and radius (rather than have to do a lot of algebraic steps before hand).

A line from the top of a cliff to the ground passes just over the top of a pole 6.0 ft. high and meets the ground at a point 7.0
Anit [1.1K]
This will solved using the concept of proportionality:
(height of the cliff)/(height of the pole)=(base of the cliff)/(length from base of pole to the rope)
thus, let the height of the cliff be x, plugging the values in the formula we obtain:
x/6=86/7
hence solving for x we get
x=(86×6)/7
x=73.71 ft

360 words in 1/12 hour. Second try 360 words in 1/15 hour. Was he faster or slower second attempt
xxTIMURxx [149]

Answer:

Second Attempt is faster.

Step-by-step explanation:

He reads 360 words in \frac{1}{12} hour in the first attempt and in the second attempt he reads the same number of words in \frac{1}{15} hour.

Since, $ \frac{1}{15} < \frac{1}{12} $ he takes less time in the second time. Less time means the work is done faster.

Therefore, second attempt is faster.

For questions 1-4 The spinner to the left is spun 100 times.
lara [203]

Answer:

1) If it is spun 250 times, it will not land on W 207 times.

2) If it is spun 100 times, it will land on N 17 times (rounded up).

3) 1 out of 6

4) It has the same answer as 1) <em>(If it is spun 250 times, it will not land on W 207 times.)</em>
