There are many different types of dog breeds, despite the fact that they are all one species, Canis familiaris and all have a co

mmon ancestor, the wolf, Canis lupus. Many breeds, such as the Alaskan malamute and the Siberian husky look remarkably like wolves and even retain some of their habits. Other breeds like the daschund above, do not strongly resemble wolves.
What part of the theory of evolution by natural selection would explain why there are no wild wolves that resemble dachshunds?

A) Natural selection leads to evolution.
B) There is very little genetic variation in all living species.
C) There is over-reproduction in all living species to ensure their survival.
D) Competition favors the most fit organism.

D) Competition favors the fittest organisms.
This is correct because, in different parts of the world, different organisms need different things to survive, which means if Wolves in Alaska need warm coats to survive, but animals in some parts of America don't, each animal that is the fittest to live in those conditions will survive, while the others with unfavorable genes will not.

The next layer is the ____________ where the existing, columnar chondrocytes enlarge and thus force the separations between lacu
Verdich [7]

Answer:

(b)- zone of hypertrophy

Explanation:

Hypertrophic cells synthesize alkaline phosphatase by calcifying the surrounding area; prevent the diffusion of substances, this causes chondrocyte death; therefore, the matrix degrades and the lagoons converge, then the blood vessels proliferate in the collarete to vascularize the cavity. The primitive periodic cells migrate to the vascular borders to become osteoprogenitor cells which are attached to the cartilaginous spicules leaving the degradation of the calcified cartilage, then they become osteoblasts. The combination of cartilage and bone matrix forms a mixed spicule.

Endochondral bone growth begins in the second trimester of fetal life and goes to adulthood, in it there is presence of epiphyseal cartilage.

The epiphyseal cartilage has several areas including:

Hypertrophy zone: it is composed of large chondrocytes that accumulate glycogen. The matrix is compressed between the hypertrophied cartilaginous columns.

Explain why vestigial organs are not “left-overs” of evolution (3 points)
nasty-shy [4]

Answer:

Vestigial organs are those organs that were present in the past ancestors but absent in their present generations. Vestigial organs are not leftover of evolution because they are evolved to perform a different function.

Explanation:

For example, an appendix is considered as a vestigial organ but it helps in storing good bacteria and plays a vital role in the immune system. These vestigial organs are the product of changing the environment and adaptation to the changing environment. Due to natural selection some specific traits have been passed down to generations which helped the animals to survive in those conditions. The other examples of vestigial organs are wisdom teeth coccyx, tonsils, several genes in the chromosomes and our hair.
