Columbus believed that, when sailing west, would lead him to India. However, in sailing west, he entered into the lands now known as the USA. His misleading belief led him to name the natives of the land "Indians", and that was the name that stuck.

Due to this two legislation in Kansas many people opposed each other giving Kansas the nickname "Bleeding Kansas" President Pierce had to send in Federal Troops to cease the civil unrest.

A leading attorney who argued many famous cases in the Supreme Court.On appeal their case reached the Supreme Court as Worcester v. Georgia (1832), and the Court held that the Cherokee Nation was "a distinct political community" within which Georgia law had no force. The Georgia law was therefore unconstitutional.
