HELP! Match the range of the function f(x)=x^2+2x-1 to its domain
Ksenya-84 [330]
If f(x)=x^2 +2x -1
a) 2=x^2+2x-1
0=x^2+2x-3
0=(x+3)(x-1)  x=-3 or 1

b) 14=x^2+2x-1
0=x^2+2x-15
0=(x+5)(x-3) x=-5 or 3

c) 7=x^2+2x-1
0=x^2+2x-8
0=(x+4)(x-2) x=-4 or 2

d) -1=x^2+2x-1
0=x^2+2x+0
0=(x+2)x  x=0 or -2

Since this function involves a quadratic equation, there are technically two possible inputs that will give you the same output. In your case, you just have to match one of the possible inputs to its output (the numbers on the left originally given, from what it seems.) Hope this helps

To obtain the graph of y=(x- 8)2 shift the graph of y= x2
bonufazy [111]
You would shift this to the right 8 places. This is because in vertex form, the x value is the opposite of the number in the parenthesis with the x.

Why is it helpful to write numbers in different ways
Goshia [24]
You should write numbers in as many ways as you possibly can to make new connections in your brain. Knowing how to write numbers in many different ways can help you solve complex problems more easily. Doing this can also reinforce the mathematical principles and logic you have memorised.

Writing one in many different ways:

1=1/1=2/2=3/3=4/4=(-1)/(-1)=(-2)/(-2)

=1.0=1.00=1.000=(1/2)+(1/2)=(1/3)+(1/3)+(1/3)

=(1/4)+(1/4)+(1/4)+(1/4)

Writing a half in many different ways:

1/2=(1/4)+(1/4)=(1/6)+(1/6)+(1/6)

=(1/8)+(1/8)+(1/8)+(1/8)=4*(1/8)

=2/4=3/6=4/8=5/10=0.5=0.50

etc...etc...
