Answer:

By titration with a standard acid solution and suitable indicator.

Explanation:

We can determine the concentration of a sodium hydroxide solution by titrating it against a standard HCl (or any strong acid) solution. In this method we can follow the given steps:

a) Fill the burette with naOH.

b) Take 10mL of a standard HCl solution in conical flask.

c) Add 2-3 drops of phenolphthalein as indicator in HCl.

d) start adding NaOH dropwise from burette to flask.

e) Note the end point as appearance of pink colour in the solution.

f) note the volume of NaOH added from burette.

g) use the following formula to calculate the concentration of NaOH solution

N₁V₁ = N₂V₂

Where

N₁= normality of NaOH

V₁= volume of NaOH used

N₂= normality of Hcl

V₂= 10 mL

Thus by putting values, we can determine the concentration of NaOH solution.

describe the difference between a monoprotic acid and a triprotic acid. How does a triprotic acid generate hydrogen ions?
natita [175]
With the Bronsted-Lowry theory of acids and bases, acids donate protons to other substances. A monoprotic acid is an an acid that can only supply one proton (hydrogen). A triprotic acid is an an acid that can supply up to three protons (hydrogens). A triprotic acid get get its hydrogen ions by receiving them from a base.

A wittig reaction occurs when 4-methylbenzaldehyde and benzyltriphenylphosphonium chloride are stirred together at room temperat
GarryVolchara [31]

Answer:

See explanation

Explanation:

The wittig reaction is an organic reaction in which an aldehyde or a ketone reacts with a phosphonium ylide to give an alkene. This phoshonium ylide that participates in the reaction is usually generated insitu in the system by reaction of an alky or aryl triphenylphosphonium halide salt with a base(sodium hydroxide is mostly used).

In this particular reaction 4-methylbenzaldehyde and benzyltriphenylphosphonium chloride were reacted together in the presence of sodium hydroxide and the product with the structure shown in the answer was obtained as the major isomer produced in the reaction.
