how do I solve this quadratic simultaneous equation 2y+2x=7 and x^2-4y^2=8 it has two sets of solutions and I'm solving by both
Ghella [55]
These are all the possible answers i know from experience.

2x + 2y = 7
x^2 - 4y^2 = 8

2x = -2y + 7
x = -y + 7/2

(-y + 7/2)^2 - 4y^2 = 8

y^2 - 7y + 49/4 - 4y^2 = 8

0 = 3y^2 + 7y + 8 - 49/4

0 = 12y^2 + 28y + 32 - 49

0 = 12y^2 + 28y - 17

y = (-b ± √(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)

y = (-28 ± √(28^2 - 4(12)(-17)))/(2(12))

Dividing by 2 is like dividing by √(4):

y = (-14 ± √(7*28 + (12)(17)))/(2*6)

y = (-7 ± √(7*7 + (3)(17)))/6

y = (-7 ± 10)/6 = 1/2 or -17/6

x = -y + 7/2 = 3 or 19/3

<span>Solutions are (3,1/2) and (19/3,-17/6)</span>

What is the slope of the line represented by the equation 10x + 5y = 4?
MrRissso [65]
1.
Convert the equations into the slope-intercept form y=mx+b.

10x+5y=4 \\&#10;5y=-10x+4 \\&#10;y=-2x+\frac{4}{5} \\&#10;m=\boxed{-2} \Leftarrow \hbox{the slope} \\ \\&#10;y=\frac{x}{3}-5 \\&#10;y=\frac{1}{3}x-5 \\&#10;m=\boxed{\frac{1}{3}} \Leftarrow \hbox{the slope}

2.
(-3,1) \\&#10;x=-3 \\ y=1 \\ \Downarrow \\&#10;3 \times (-3)+2 \times 1 \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-9+2 \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-7 \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-7 = -7 \\&#10;\hbox{the ordered pair makes the equation true}

(-2,-1) \\&#10;x=-2 \\ y=-1 \\ \Downarrow \\&#10;3 \times (-2) + 2 \times (-1) \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-6-2 \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-8 \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-8 \not= -7 \\&#10;\hbox{the ordered pair doesn't make the equation true}

(1,-4) \\&#10;x=1 \\ y=-4 \\ \Downarrow \\&#10;3 \times 1+2 \times (-4) \stackrel{?}{=}-7 \\&#10;3-8 \stackrel{?}{=}-7 \\&#10;-5 \stackrel{?}{=}-7 \\&#10;-5 \not= -7 \\&#10;\hbox{the ordered pair doesn't make the equation true}

(3,-8) \\&#10;x=3 \\ y=-8 \\ \Downarrow \\&#10;3 \times 3+2 \times (-8) \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;9-16 \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-7 \stackrel{?}{=} -7 \\&#10;-7 =-7 \\&#10;\hbox{the ordered pair makes the equation true}&#10;

The ordered pairs (-3,1) and (3,-8) make the equation true.

If two angles are congruent, then they are vertical angles? True or False. If true explain your reasoning. If false, give an cou
AlekseyPX
This is false. For example two angles of an isosceles triangle have the same measure (are congruent) but they are not vertical angles.
