Solution :

Cost of carpeting per square yard = $ 15.00

<u>For 3 ft by 6 ft</u>

1 yard = 3 feet

∴ 1 feet =  $\frac{1}{3}$ yard

So,

Therefore, area of 3 ft by 6 ft is = $3 \times \frac{1}{3} \times 6 \times \frac{1}{3} $

                                                    = 1 x 2

                                                    = 2 square yard

Therefore, cost of carpeting 2 square yard = 2 x 15

                                                                       = $ 30

<u>For 9 ft by 12 ft</u>

1 yard = 3 feet

∴ 1 feet =  $\frac{1}{3}$ yard

So,

Therefore, area of 9 ft by 12 ft is = $9 \times \frac{1}{3} \times 12 \times \frac{1}{3} $

                                                    = 3 x 4

                                                    = 12 square yard

Therefore, cost of carpeting 2 square yard = 12 x 15

                                                                       = $ 180
