I'm not sure how to help you mate, since you didn't include anything that had imagery or mood, but I'll try my best...
Imagery is description basically. For example, when you're writing (or reading) you should be able to imagine exactly what is being described. ie; "Snow White's bright painted cherry lips brushed softly across the firm flesh of the apple."
Mood is how you're emotionally effected by the writing. Music is the best example of mood. For example, during a horror music how there will often be scary violin music? That helps increase the mood/atomosphere or the movie. Same thing with writing.

I hope I helped mate, good luck!~

In poetry, what are "free verse" and "haiku"?
Gala2k [10]
In poetry, 'free verse' is an open form of poetry, so there are no rhyming schemes, you can write whichever rhyme you want, and the meter (the accents and the number of syllables) is also random.
A 'haiku' is a short Japanese poem, consisting of 3 lines, where the first and last lines have 5 syllables, and the middle line 7.

The three-part of the given excerpt from Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel The House of Seven Gables provides direct characterization are given below:

 • Endowed with commonsense, as massive and hard as blocks of granite, fastened together by stern rigidity of purpose, as with iron clamps.
 • On the score of delicacy or any scrupulousness that a finer sensibility might have taught him, the Colonel, like most of his breed and generation, was impenetrable.
 • It was curious, and, as some people thought, an ominous fact, that, very soon after the workmen began their operations, the spring of water, above mentioned, entirely lost the deliciousness of its pristine quality.

What is Direct Characterization?

Direct characterization may be defined as a situation in which an author illustrates a character in a precise manner.

The speaker here is articulating the character as a person that is reasonable and has an intention of objective.

Therefore, it is well described above.
