Combine the y's to get 11y
combine the whole numbers to get 13
so expression would be,
13 + 11y + 9x

Which step is included in the graph of the function f(x)=[x-1]? (the brackets are ceiling functions symbols)
KiRa [710]

we are given

f(x)=[x=1]

where bracket means ceiling functions

we know that

Ceiling  function returns the least value of the integer that is greater than or equal to the specified number

so, we can check each options

option-A:

-4\leq x

At x=-4:

f(x)=[-4-1] =-5

For x<-3:

Let's assume

x=-3.1

f(x)=[-3.1-1] =[-4.1]=-5

so, this interval is TRUE

option-B:

-2\leq x

At x=-2:

f(x)=[-2-1] =-3

For x<-1:

Let's assume

x=-1.1

f(x)=[-1.1-1] =[-2.1]=-3

so, this is FALSE

Violet contributes 12% of her $55,700 annual salary to her 401(k) plan. What is her pretax income?
NikAS [45]
You have that:

 - Her contribution from her salary <span>to her 401(k) plan, </span>is: 12%.
 - Her annual salary is: $55,700.

 Then, to solve this problem and calculate her pretax income, you must following the steps below:

 1. You must calculate the amount that Violet contributed to her 401(k) plan. So, you have:

 12%/100=0.12

 ($55,700x0.12)=$6,684

 2. Now, you must subtract her annual pay ($55,700) by the amount obtained ($6,684), as below:

 Pretax income= $55,700-$6,684
<span> Pretax income=$49,016
</span><span>
 What is her pretax income?

 The answer is: Her pretax income is </span>$49,016

One cylinder has a volume that is 8 Centimeters cubed less than StartFraction 7 over 8 EndFraction of the volume of a second cyl
mojhsa [17]

The correct equation is:

216 = \frac{7}{8} \times x - 8

The volume of second cylinder is 256 centimeter cubed

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that,

One cylinder has a volume that is 8cm less than 7/8 of the volume of a second cylinder

The first cylinder’s volume is 216 centimeter cubed

From given,

Let "x" be the volume of second cylinder

Therefore,

Volume of first cylinder = 7/8 of the volume of a second cylinder - 8

216 = \frac{7}{8} \times x - 8

216 = \frac{7x}{8}-8\\\\216 = \frac{7x-64}{8}\\\\7x - 64 = 8 \times 216\\\\7x - 64 = 1728\\\\7x = 1728 + 64\\\\7x = 1792\\\\Divide\ both\ sides\ by\ 7\\\\x = 256

Thus the volume of second cylinder is 256 centimeter cubed

What are the domain and range of the function f(x)= square rootx-7+9?
FinnZ [79.3K]

Answer:

Domain: [7, ∞)

Range: [9, ∞)

Step-by-step explanation:

1) This question may be easily answered if you are aware of the shape of the graph of sq. root x, and the effect of translations to graphs.

1. x - 7 means that the original graph is translated 7 units in the positive direction of the x-axis (ie. to the right), thus the minimum value for x is also shifted from 0 to 7

2. the + 9 means that the graph is translated 9 units in the positive direction of the y-axis (ie. up), thus the minimum y-value is also shifted from 0 to 9

3. We know that the graph will continue to infinity, both in the x- and y-direction

Thus, the domain would be [7, ∞) and the range [9, ∞)

2) Another way to think about it is to ask yourself when it would make sense for the graph to exist. For this, we must consider that you cannot take the square root of a negative number.

Thus, if we have the square root of (x - 7), for what value of x would (x - 7) be negative? If x = 7:

x - 7 = 7 - 7 = 0

Therefor, any x-value less than 7 will lead to a negative answer, which wouldn't be practical. Any value equal to or greater than 7 will lead to a positive answer, thus the permissible values for x are from 7 to infinity, and so the domain is [7, ∞) (note that square brackets are used for 7 as it is included in the domain, whereas infinity is always closed with round brackets).

If we have already found the domain, then we can simply substitute the values for this into the equation to obtain the range (note that this will work for a square root function, however some functions will have turning points and in this case you must calculate the range based on the turning points as well as the minimum and maximum x-values):

if x = 7: y = sq. root (7-7) + 9

= 9

This is the minimum value for y

if we have x = ∞, then the y value will also be infinitely great, therefor the maximum y-value is also ∞. Thus, the range is [9, ∞).

These questions are much easier to solve however if you are already aware of the basic graph and the effect of dilations, translations and reflections so that you may visualise it better.
