this passage talks about the anti-german time period where America would try and ‘erase’ Germans. In the begging game of the passage, it says that Hollywood made multiple hate films against Germans, and the films depicted Germans as bad people. Americans also turned German food names to ‘liberty’ like ‘liberty steak’ and ‘liberty cabbage’. They avoided calling these foods original name because they were German names. Teddy Roosevelt wanted people to become “100% American” meaning that they needed to leave their cultures and beliefs behind and become a ‘true American’
