Answer:

A dig occurs when a player passes the ball after it was attacked by the opponents (spiked). Digs are only considered digs when the attacked ball is passed properly and the game is kept in play.

Explanation:

A forearm pass is a normal pass from one player to another. When an opponent attempts to spike the ball and score a point, the ball is attacked. If a player can "save" the ball before the opposition would score, it is considered a dig. If the ball is not saved and the play is over, the dig is not recognized. Hope this helps :)
