The name of America is derived from the name of Amerigo Vespucci who was an Italian merchant explorer known for his early voyages to the New World, under the sponsorship of Spanish Crown. While Columbus found the New world but he wanted it to the East because of the big prize it holds. Amerigo was the man who recognized that it was a new continent when he traveled along its coast and therefore his honor resemble in the name given to America.
