It is a region where infrastructure doesn't have much influence because trade goes through water, and even though it is a huge distance in question from one side to another, trade is very easy. On the other hand, we have the steppes. These areas are sparsely populated, are usually low on resources, the climate is harsh, which in turn makes the countries dominated by them are less developed, and that in turn means infrastructure in bad condition or fully lacking in most of the territory. Such conditions result in bad conditions for trade as the opportunities are much lower than in other regions.
