Why is it important not to let bullying continue for years without being effectively addressed?

Excessive bullying can lead to degradation of mental health and excessive stress down the road. This can lead to further problems as well such as substance abuse. So in effect, it's like a possible chain reaction that could occur if the problem isn't dealt with right away. Plus, not addressing the issue just encourages the bully to keep going and possibly target others.
