The weekly earnings of students in one age group are normally distributed with a standard deviation of 88 dollars. A researcher

Answer:

The sample size needed is of 10,484.

Step-by-step explanation:

We have to find our \alpha level, that is the subtraction of 1 by the confidence interval divided by 2. So:

\alpha = \frac{1 - 0.98}{2} = 0.01

Now, we have to find z in the Z-table as such z has a p-value of 1 - \alpha.

That is z with a p-value of 1 - 0.01 = 0.99, so Z = 2.327.

Now, find the margin of error M as such

M = z\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}

In which \sigma is the standard deviation of the population and n is the size of the sample.

The weekly earnings of students in one age group are normally distributed with a standard deviation of 88 dollars.

This means that \sigma = 88

Find the sample size needed to assure with 98 percent confidence that the sample mean will not differ from the population mean by more than 2 dollars.

This is n for which M = 2. So

M = z\frac{\sigma}{\sqrt{n}}

2 = 2.327\frac{88}{\sqrt{n}}

2\sqrt{n} = 2.327*88

\sqrt{n} = \frac{2.327*88}{2}

(\sqrt{n})^2 = (\frac{2.327*88}{2})^2

n = 10483.3

Rounding up:

The sample size needed is of 10,484.

"to replace a number with another number that tells about how many or how much". What is ths operation called?
Maru [420]

The operation is known as rounding of a number.

This means basically if i measure the temperature of a city and it comes out to be 22.9 degrees. I will round it of to 30 degrees or the amount of significant figures i am designated with.

Similarly if its 22.85 and i have to round of to 3 significant figures it becomes 22.9 degrees.

ROunding off is obviously done watching to which digit we have to.

If the midpoint is located at (-6,-2) and one endpoint is at (1,7), what is the coordinates of the other endpoint?
FromTheMoon [43]

Answer:

The other endpoint would be (-13, -11)

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to find the coordinates of an end point, we need to note that the midpoint would be the average of the two values. We'll call the unknown point P and we'll start by looking at the x values only.

(1 + Px)/2 = -6 ----> multiply by 2

1 + Px = -12 -----> subtract 1

Px = -13

Now we can do the same with the y values.

(7 + Py)/2 = -2 ----> multiply by 2

7 + Py = -4 ------> subtract 7

Py = -11
