What conditions made life difficult for homesteaders what helped homesteaders survive give examples
expeople1 [14]

Homesteaders living on the great plains were what you call "Extremely Dramatic". There were lots of conditions on the great plains that affected settlers lives. Here are these problems; building houses, staying healthy, extreme weather, lack of fuel, Indian Attacks, lack of isolation, keeping clean, lack of water, and pests and vermin. The problem with the bugs were grasshoppers. Grasshoppers ruined their crops. Building houses from wood was expensive. The settlers couldn't afford building houses from wood, so they built it from sod. The walls and floors were infested with bugs and lice, because these homes were built from dirt and grass. It would leak in the homes when it rained. They also had problems staying healthy because of the insects. The insects that flew around would inject disease into their bodies. In other words, There are three things that helped them survive, and 3/3 of these examples issued technology. 1.) Barbed wire, 2.) steel plow, and 3.) windmills. The barbed wire was for housing reasons, the steel plow was for cutting through tough prairie sod, and the windmills for pumping water out of the ground. :)

HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL GIVE 25 POINTS!!!!!
Free_Kalibri [48]

Answer:

No

Explanation:

Sanctuary Cities are abhorrent at best, and the reason is simple. One could back these ideas purely on principal, but instead the state and local governments that enact these sanctuary laws are doing so with only political motivation in mind. Much like every mass shooting, or every time something bad happens in our nation. The political dilemma we face is that these acts or carried out without pure intentions.

Pandering to a base by way of violating laws sets a terrible precedent going forward. it suggests that here our laws are different and "that line in the sand can move". what is a nation of laws which doesn't enforce them. The answer is a nation without a spine. A law is a law, and while one might disagree with the laws, and that is why we have a proper way of enacting changes we want to see done in our great nation.

This has been done with Marijuana in multiple states already, however cities and local governments do not hold a vote to allow residents to have a say. No, instead they declare the city as being a sanctuary, and depend on mob rule to force those who oppose into silence or to force them out of the city entirely.

If we want to make it easier for people to attain visas and green cards, let's have that discussion and vote on it. if we want to make the US open borders, let's have a discussion and vote on it. but to simply say "to hell with you" and violate the law of the land without the say so from the citizens of state and local municipalities is mob rule at best and a violation of the oathes of offices taken by those we elect into those offices.

Personally, I believe that it is too hard for immigrants to attain visas and green cards, and that isn't to mention the financial cost ranging in the thousands for a single person going through this process. I believe this system requires change and needs revision, but it is wrong to declare sanctuary cities and states. one because it is done with motivation of pandering to a base for political gain, and lastly it sets a precedent for lawlessness in our greater country and local and state governments.

If we are to be a nation of laws, then we must be a nation of laws and not lawlessness. If we are to be a nation of suggestions, then we should carry on as we are currently doing. I love to do what feels right, but it must be done in the right way, otherwise you add fuel to the fires of division in our nation, and as Abraham Lincoln once famously stated; "A divided house cannot stand".

notice the words steinbeck uses to describe the rain and flooding what might the flood symbolize in the story?
sertanlavr [38]

Answer:

The concept of Flood was used as a symbol for signifying the sad overtone of the novel, for representing migration of people and a reference to the Flood of Noah.

Explanation:

In the first part of the Novel the Joad Family was suffering from a drought which caused many families to search for employment elsewhere, leaving their current land (such as the Joads) . California, at that time, was the place said to have an ample amount of opportunities. Therefore, the Joads, like many others, moved to California to survive. However, in the end of the Novel, severe rain began and caused a Flood.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reference Text From Book ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<em>"The rain began with gusty showers, pauses and downpours; and then gradually it settled to a single tempo, small drops and a steady beat, rain that was gray to see through, rain that cut midday light to evening. And at first the dry earth sucked the moisture down and blackened. For two days the earth drank the rain, until the earth was full." </em>(Chapter 29)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The earth consumed the rain, until it could no more. Once it was full, the flooding began . This is a symbol for workers moving to California to find jobs . However, this migration ended up causing California to become full of people. Consequently, there were more people than jobs available and issues started to rise again.

Furthermore, Steinbeck's use of Flood also shades light over the tragic theme of the Novel and as the apocalyptic nature of the flood was used as a reference to the Noah's Ark.
