Answer:

GE=\sqrt{320}=8\sqrt{5}

DF=\sqrt{80}=4\sqrt{5}

\text{Area of kite}=80

Step-by-step explanation:

We have been given an image of a kite on coordinate plane.

To find the length of GE we will use distance formula:

\text{Distance}=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

Upon substituting coordinates of point G and E in above formula we will get,

GE=\sqrt{(16-0)^2+(8-0)^2}

GE=\sqrt{(16)^2+(8)^2}

GE=\sqrt{256+64}

GE=\sqrt{320}

GE=8\sqrt{5}

Therefore, the length of diagonal GE is 8\sqrt{5} units.

Similarly we will find the length of diagonal DF using distance formula.

DF=\sqrt{(14-10)^2+(2-10)^2}

DF=\sqrt{(4)^2+(-8)^2}

DF=\sqrt{16+64}

DF=\sqrt{80}

DF=4\sqrt{5}

Therefore, the length of diagonal DF is 4\sqrt{5} units.

Now we will use area of kite formula to find the area of our given kite.

\text{Area of kite}=\frac{p*q}{2}, where, p and q are diagonals of kite.

Upon substituting our values in area formula we will get,

\text{Area of kite}=\frac{8\sqrt{5}*4\sqrt{5}}{2}

\text{Area of kite}=\frac{32*5}{2}

\text{Area of kite}=16*5

\text{Area of kite}=80

Therefore, area of our given kite is 80 square units.

A 5-meter ladder is leaning against the side of a house. The foot of the ladder is pulled away from the house at a rate of 0.4 m
Flura [38]
<h2>The top of the ladder is descending at 0.3 m/s.</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

By Pythagoras theorem we know that

              Hypotenuse² = Base² + Perpendicular²

                   h² = b² + p²

We have for ladder

                        h = 5 m

                        b = 3 m

                        5² = 3² + p²

                        p = 4 m

                        \frac{db}{dt}=0.4m/s\\\\\frac{dh}{dt}=0

Differentiating h² = b² + p² with respect to time

                    2h\times \frac{dh}{dt}=2b\times \frac{db}{dt}+2p\times \frac{dp}{dt}\\\\5\times 0=3\times 0.4+4\times \frac{dp}{dt}\\\\\frac{dp}{dt}=-0.3m/s

The top of the ladder is descending at 0.3 m/s.

The coordinates of one endpoint of a line segment are (4, −12). The length of the segment is 5 units. Determine four coordinate
Nina [5.8K]

Answer:

Four coordinate pairs that could serve as the other endpoint of the given line segment are given by: (9,-12), (-1,-12), (4,-7), (4,-17).

Step-by-step explanation:

One endpoint of (4,-12), length of 5 units.

Four possible pairs:

Add 5 to x, keep y: (4+5,-12) = (9,-12).

Subtract 5 from x, keep y: (4-5,-12) = (-1,-12).

Keep x, add 5 to y: (4,-12+5) = (4,-7)

Keep x, subtract 5 from y: (4,-12-5) = (4,-17)

Four coordinate pairs that could serve as the other endpoint of the given line segment are given by: (9,-12), (-1,-12), (4,-7), (4,-17).
