A C4 plant like corn or sugarcane would not thrive in a cool shady forest because of:________

Biology
1 answer:
Alborosie3 years ago

Answer:

The correct answer is - B. lower environmental availability of CO2

Explanation:

In C4 plants they have developed a mechanism for the CO2 concentrating and leads to the lower environmental availability of CO2 for these plants, C4  to avoid photorespiration.

These plants tend to be found in drier environments with high sunlight levels and not thrive in a cool shady forest due to this mechanism that results in low availability of carbon dioxide.

PLEASE HELP!!!! I WILL GIVE BRAINIEST!!!! What is the difference between weathering and erosion? How are mechanical weathering a
kicyunya [14]

Answer:

Explanation:

1. What is the difference between weathering and erosion?

ANSWER

Weathering is the physical disintegration and chemical decomposition of rocks to form soils and rocks. Weathering acts to break down earth materials.

while

Erosion is the wearing or washing away of weathered materials. Without weathering, there won't be erosion.

2. How are mechanical weathering and chemical weathering different?

Solution

Mechanical weathering is the physical disintegration of rocks. Examples are:

>Pressure release on rocks

>Biological activities

>Freezing and thawing

> Drying and wetting of rocks

Mechanical weathering helps to loosen rocks and to increase surface area of exposure of rocks.

while

Chemical weathering is the deacy and decompostion of rocks. Chemical reactions on rocks are initiated naturally in different forms. Bonds between rock molecules are broken, water can dissolve some soluble rock contents, etc, all this would lead to chemical weathering of such rocks. Chemical weathering occurs through:

>Hydrolysis

>Carbonation

>Oxidation etc.

4. How are hydrolysis and oxidation similar?

Hydrolysis and oxidation are both processes of chemical weathering. They aid in chemical decomposition of rocks.

Hydrolysis causes decompositon through the action of water. In oxidation, oxygen reacts with earth materials.

5. Explain the process of exfoliation.

Exfoliation is a physical weathering process. It accompanies pressure release on a rock surface.

Rocks overly one another and by so doing, they mount pressure on the underlying ones. The part of the bedrock close to overhead rock receives more pressure while the part far away receives little to no pressure. This differential pressure is what leads to exfoliation of rocks. Exfoliation is produced when the overlying rock is moved away and the pressure is released.

When a rock exfoliates, it breaks down into layers like an onion skin. It can create a massive feature known as an exfoliation dome. Each sheet is a product of pressure differences.

6. As waves crash into rock along the shoreline, particles of sand, shell, and other materials in the ocean water loosen tiny bits of sediment from the rock.

>>>>>>>>>This is weathering

As the waves recede, they carry the sediment away. In this scenario, which process represents weathering, and which process represents erosion?

>>>>>>>>> This is erosion

Pani-rosa [81]
