Personal Statement

Mathematics

Well, as it says, your first statement needs to explain what interests you about the program.

If you feel you need multiple paragraphs, let the first be an introduction, around 4 or 5 sentences. Include, possibly what pushed you to apply for this program, what you're looking forward to, and a reason for them to hire you. You can add a thesis statement of sorts if that helps (a short statement, usually one sentence, that summarizes the main point or claim of a paper). The first paragraph can be short, it doesn't need to be too in-depth. You can talk more about that later in your statement.

The body paragraphs must include your goals and extracurricular interests (what courses would you like to take and why?).

As it states, you must list your GPA, what interests you about the Major and/or Minor/Workshop courses, and what you can contribute (you can build off of what you said in your first paragraph here).

It is very important to share additional details you think are important, such as accomplishments you are proud of, for example.

A conclusion would be nice, a short and sweet wrap-up of your overall statement (not too long).

Remember, the name of the game is to sound confident and prove to them that you are in fact a good fit for the program! Good luck! Stay focused ^^

In one grade of 150 students, the ratio of boys to girls is 2 : 3.
Radda [10]

Answer:

60 boys are in the grade.

Step-by-step explanation: Since there are 150 students, we can divide that number by the combined ratio, which in this case is 5. Dividing 150 by 5 would yield 30 students. We can use this information to multiply the given number of boys in the ratio by 30, which would produce 60.

I need help with this
Nataly_w [17]
Answer: 72 units^2

Explanation:
Triangle to the left, you do 5(6) and get 30, but since it's a triangle, you divide by 2 and get 15. Middle rectangle, 6(8) is 48. Right triangle, 3(6) is 18, 18/2 is 9. Add them all up 15+48+9 and you get 72. Hope this helped!

The height of a triangle is 8 centimeters greater than half its base. The area of the triangle is 48 square centimeters what is
emmainna [20.7K]

Answer:

base = 8 cm

height = 12 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

We will need the formula for area of a trianlge, which is

A = (1/2)bh    where b is the base, and h is the height

We are given two formulas...

"The height of a triangle is 8 centimeters greater than half its base" becomes

  h = (1/2)b + 8

"The area of the triangle is 48 square centimeters" becomes

48 = (1/2)bh

Plug the first formula into the second to solve for h

48 = (1/2)b[(1/2) + 8]             (h becomes (1/2)b + 8)

Now solve for b

48 = (1/4)b² + 4b

**This is a quadratic euquation.  Solve using factoring...

(1/4)b² + 4b - 48 = 0       (subtract 48 from both sides)

b² + 16b - 192  =  0       (multiply by 4 so b² is by itself, it's easier to factor this way)

Now factor...

(b + 24)(b - 8) = 0       (you need two numbers that add to 16 and multiply to -192)

Set each binomial equal to zero and solve for b

b + 24 = 0

    b = -24

**this anwser is not valid because b is a length, and you can't have negative length

b - 8 = 0

  b = 8

Since the other solution is invalid, the base is b

If the base is b, then the height is...

h = (1/2)b + 8

   h = (1/2)(8) + 8

     h = 4 + 8

         h = 12
