Hello!

To first understand this question, we have to know what a domain is, and what it means to be linear.

The domain is all the possible x values.

Currently, in this graph, it starts at 0, and goes to some point further on.

To be linear means that you have linear growth, which this does not.  This has a bend in it, which is not linear.  

So, you must restrict the domain such that you only have a linear section.

If you look at the graph as a whole, it makes a bend. But, if you only look at x value 6 and up, it seems quite straight.

So, this makes sense!

First add 14+2 so you have sqrt(x) +14=x. Next subtract the 14 to the other side and square both sides, so you have x=x^2+28x+196. Now subtract the x, then use quadratic formula to get the two solutions for the way you have the question typed. However, since I recognize this as being a test question from your FLVS course that is not typed correctly with the parenthesis that will give you the wrong answer. A better idea would be to review through the examples in the lesson, try a few practice problems, then you can easily solve by isolating the square root on one side by itself, then squaring both sides.
