Distribute -1 in the 2nd parenthesis:

$\sf 6x^2-6x-4-5x^2+8x+4$

Combine like terms:

$\sf 6x^2-5x^2=x^2$

$\sf -6x+8x=2x$

$\sf -4+4=0$

So we have:

$\sf x^2+2x$
