South Africa was colonized by the British empire which had caused Protestant  Christianity to spread. Keep in mind that due too Henry VIII and the creation of the Angelicin Church, Britain had effectively abandoned the Roman Catholic Church. This would open the flood gates so to speak, allowing Protestantism to become big in Britain. This would spread even further as the island nation became an empire.
