jade buys a blouse and a skirt for 3/4of thier original price jade pays a total of 31.50 for the two items if the original price
aleksandrvk [35]

Answer: the original price of the skirt is $24

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the original price of the skirt. if the original price of the blouse is 18, then the original price of the skirt and blouse is (x + 18)

Jade buys a blouse and a skirt for 3/4of their original price. It means that the amount at which she bought the skirt and blouse is

0.75(x + 18)

Applying the distributive property, it becomes

0.75x + 13.5

Jade pays a total of 31.50 for the two items. It means that

0.75x + 13.5 = 31.5

0.75x = 31.5 - 13.5

0.75x = 18

x = 18/0.75

x = $24

Bill and Mary Ann went to the Viola bakery. Bill bought 5 pies and 7 donuts for $12.65. Mary Ann bought 6 of each for $12.30.
sweet [91]

Answer:

Pies=$0.85

Donuts= $1.20

Step-by-step explanation:

In the equation let p stand for the number of pies and d stand for the number of donuts.

To solve this set up 2 equations, one representing bill and the other representing Mary Ann.

  • Bill's equation is 5p+7d=$12.65.
  • Mary Ann's equation is 6p+6d=$12.30

Then solve using a system of equations. Systems of equations can be solved using elimination or substitution. I will use substitution. Solve bill's equation for p. This gives you p=\frac{12.65-7d}{5}. Then, you can substitute that into Mary Ann's equation. This looks like 6\cdot \frac{12.65-7d}{5}+6d=12.3. Solve for d. Once you solve d=1.20. Finally, substitute 1.20 back into either Bill's or Mary Ann's for d and solve for p. No matter which equation you use p=0.85.

The price of a CD on sale is 0.65c, where c is the original price of the CD. What does that mean?
Nuetrik [128]
Hey there!

If the price of a CD on sale is 0.65c, then 0.35 was taken off of the original price. You can find this if you subtract 0.65 from 1, or 65% from 100%.

Your answer would not be your second option or your fourth option, since the price you're paying is 0.65 of the original price and you are getting 0.35 of the price off. Also, your third option wouldn't be correct either, since 0.35 isn't being added on top of the total price.

Your answer is your first option.

Hope this helped you out! :-)
