When Harry “thought” that and earwig had dropped into his tea, this was the first clue that something mysterious would happen. This is because it tells the reader that Harry was wrong in his original assumption that it was an earwig and in reality is actually something else. Also, when the doctor originally takes the lizard out of Effie’s eye, he says that it is “very interesting.” This also is mysterious, because the reader wants to know what is “very interesting” but they haven’t seen it yet!

i hope my answer was ok, good luck!
