Answer:

3.The defense lawyer concluded his remarks with a foolproof argument of the defendant's innocence.

Explanation:

Sentence number 3 is the one that uses the word foolproof as described by the second definition because it is stating that there is not any possibility to fail with this argument. In other words, it is saying that with that argument, the layer is going to win the case.

The other options use the term foolproof as something that is designed to function despite the human error, they all refer to an object or activity that involves human beings, and  that did or did not work despite human error

Select two examples of how Naomi Shihab Nye uses metaphors in the poem, "Making a Fist." (Check all that apply)
34kurt

Answer:

Explanation:

First of all, I think it would do justice to me giving a very short explanation on what a Metaphor is.

A metaphor is a figure of speech that uses a word, often times a phrase, to refer or talk about a word. It states a direct similarity between a word or phrase being used, and the word or phrase being described without using the words "as" or "like."

That being said, I will pick out two of the metaphors in the poem.

1) "my stomach was a melon split wide inside my skin."

2) "I felt the life sliding out of me."

A student is asked to write a critique of this excerpt from Utopia. If these metals were laid up in any tower in the kingdom it
irakobra [83]

The correct answer is B. The effects of slavery are much worse than the effects of materialism.

Explanation:

A critique is an evaluation or assessment in which the author aims at analyzing the positive and negative aspects of some material (novel, story, movie). This implies for a critique to be valid it needs to provide some judgment that analyses a specific aspect of the material analyzed. In the excerpt presented from Utopia, it is explained the Prince or government decided to use precious materials such as gold or silver in objects such as chamber-pots or close-stools to avoid people feel these materials are special. Additionally, these materials are used to show slavers are inferior by creating gold chains and making slavers wear gold earrings. From this excerpt the statement that works a critique of it is "The effects of slavery are much worse than the effects of materialism" because this is the only statement that goes beyond summarizing the information of the excerpt by analyzing the effects the concept of materialism has in comparison to the existence of slavery by stating the use of gold and silver in certain objects is not as harmful as it is slavery. This means statement B. is evaluation the aspects of the excerpt which is the main purpose of a critique.

Is this simple sentence
Nimfa-mama [501]
Yes it’s good, though it’d be better if you used “Your sister and my sister are best friends, they do many things together” that (and) word doesn’t seem necessary. Hope this helped :)

What does it mean to live, to feel exposed to the madness<br> of the vast, eternal sky.
docker41 [41]
There are several ways you can think about this split—the wild vs. the domesticated, the free vs. the enslaved, the rugged individual vs. society, the genuine vs. the artificial. I think the message of the poem, however, has to do with freedom of expression and the need to be independent of corrupting social influences
