The DECIDE model is the acronym of 6 particular activities needed in the decision-making process: (1) D = define the problem----"Is this a healthy breakfast choice?", (2) E = establish the criteria -----"What is a good breakfast? What nutrients do I need?", (3) C = consider all the alternatives "Other options I have?", (4) I = identify the best alternative(s), (5) D = develop and implement a plan of action, and (6) E = evaluate and monitor the solution and feedback when necessary. The DECIDE model is intended as a resource for health care managers when applying the crucial components of decision making, and it enables one to improve their decision-making skills, which leads to more effective decisions.

Hints: Include hot grain cereal such as oatmeal or multigrain hot cereal. Research the effects of simple sugars (from the cereal you chose) on the body.

Estimate your carbohydrate intake for one day. Summarize your intake at each meal and the total intake for the day. How many per meal and total simple carbohydrates did you eat? How many complex CHOs? Calculate the per meal and total CHO calories you consumed. From what you’ve learned, analyze your carbohydrate intake and give your opinion on your carbohydrate consumption. Offer comments on whether you’re CHO habits will serve you well in the short and long term.
