I would say also that making a career choice is an example of specialization because it means zeroing in on one thing like geology, fine arts, language interpreter, notary public etc. Nowadays in the modern world people are mostly specialized unlike in during the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution when scientists could be botanists, geologists, physicists, artists and poets and social commentators all in one. For example Goethe was a great German poet but was also a good naturalist and the mineral Goethite is named after him which I believe he discovered.
