The Mitchell family is renting a boat for the day. The boat rental has a flat fee of $100 plus $20 for each hour. They have to p

ay for a whole hour even if they are not out on the lake for a whole hour. For example, if they rent the boat for 3 and one-half hours, they have to pay for 4 hours.
If they want to spend $250 or less on the boat rental for the day, how many hours can they rent the boat? Write an inequality and solve.
A) 100 + 20x ≤ 250; They can boat for 7 hours.
B) 100 + 20x ≥ 250; They can boat for 8 hours.
C) 100 + 20x ≤ 250; They can boat for 8 hours.
D) 100 + 20x ≥ 250; They can boat for 7 hours.

The inequality has to be pointing at 250 since that’s the maximum of money they can spend so B and D are out. If you did the math and solved it, the answer would be 7.5 and rounded up which is 8 hours.

The answer is a = \frac{4}{-3}

Step-by-step explanation:

<em>1. Convert the mixed fraction to an improper fraction</em>

To find the numerator, multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator to it.

The denominator remains the same.

So, 2\frac{2}{3} will be \frac{8}{3}

<em>2. Now the equation is,</em>

\frac{3}{2} a - \frac{4}{3} a = \frac{10}{3} + \frac{8}{3} a

<em>3. Take LCM on both sides. </em>

For the left side, multiply the first fraction by \frac{3}{3} and multiply the second fraction by \frac{2}{2}

\frac{3*3}{2*3} a - \frac{4*3}{3*3} a = \frac{10+8a}{3}

<em>4. Solve by making a the subject</em>

\frac{9a-8a}{6} = \frac{10+8a}{3}

\frac{a}{6} = \frac{10+8a}{3}

\frac{3a}{6} =10+8a

\frac{a}{2} = 10 + 8a

a = 2(10 + 8a)

a = 20 + 16a

a-16a = 20

-15a = 20

a = \frac{20}{-15}

a = \frac{4}{-3}

Therefore, the answer is a = \frac{4}{-3}

Marysya12 [62]

Usando proporciones, se encuentra que 400 africanos han participado.

En total, hay x participantes.

\frac{5}{6} de los corredores son europeos, o sea:

E = \frac{5x}{6}

Los americanos son la dècime parte de los europeos, o sea:

Am = \frac{1}{10}E = \frac{5x}{60} = \frac{x}{12}

Los africanos son la quinta parte de los americanos, o sea:

Afr = \frac{1}{5}Am = \frac{x}{60}

En la carrera han inscritos 24 000 participantes, o sea, x = 24000. Por eso, la cantidad de africanos es:

Afr = \frac{x}{60} = \frac{24000}{60} = 400
